Facebook Live: Arthritis Awareness Month

May 26, 2020Filed Under: Arthritis Tagged With: Arthritis, arthritis prevention, arthritis treatment, Osteoarthritis, total hip replacement, total joint replacement, total knee replacement

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention projects 63 million people in the United States have arthritis. Texas Orthopedics physicians diagnose and treat this painful, debilitating condition every day. In honor of Arthritis Awareness Month, Dr. Vilas Saldanha and Dr. Barbara Bergin participated in a two-part Facebook Live series to present viewers with the facts about arthritis that they regularly discuss with their patients.

At Texas Orthopedics, we take a patient-centered approach to arthritis care. As Dr. Saldanha and Dr. Bergin explain, arthritis treatment options are tailored to individual patients, who are able to make informed decisions about their course of treatment with guidance from their physician.

Dr. Saldanha provides a basic overview of arthritis and highlights the non-surgical treatment options available. After conservative treatment options have been exhausted, it may be time to consider a total joint replacement.

Watch the Facebook Live video to hear Dr. Saldanha discuss:

  • What non-surgical treatment options are available to treat arthritis?
  • When should you consider total joint replacement?
  • What happens before, during and after total joint replacement?
  • What activities should you avoid after total joint replacement?

Dr. Bergin outlines how you can slow down arthritis, why prevention is probably not possible, and the advice she gives patients to stay active while protecting your joints.

Watch the Facebook Live video to hear Dr. Bergin discuss:

  • What does arthritis feel like?
  • How do you diagnose arthritis?
  • Are there any medications or supplements that help prevent arthritis?
  • What exercises you should avoid if you have arthritis?

Dr. Bergin offers more advice to patients on her personal blog and you can find the articles she mentions during the Facebook Live below.
