Orthopedic Hip Doctors in Austin, TX

The hip joint plays an important role as it supports body weight, provides structural stability, balance control, and enables leg movement, including flexion (bending and sitting), extension (straightening the knee, kicking), and rotation (turning inward or outward). Therefore, when hip problems develop, they can negatively impact mobility and the ability to perform daily activities including bathing, dressing, or getting in and out of a car, among others.

What are common factors that contribute to hip problems?

Hip problems can be affected by many different factors, including medical conditions such as arthritis, sports injuries, overuse activities such as running, body weight, genetics, bone deformities, inflammation, wear-and-tear, a sedentary lifestyle, and aging.

What are the symptoms of a possible hip problem?

There are many symptoms that could be pointing to a potential hip problem, outside of a sudden, traumatic injury. These symptoms include pain, pain that worsens during activity, noticeable stiffness when sitting or getting up, unexplained weakness, limited range of motion, a popping or catching sensation during movement, mobility changes such as limping, and swelling.

When should I seek medical help?

It's important to seek medical attention when hip pain becomes persistent, unbearable, limits mobility, daily activities or your quality of life.  At this point, it's crucial to be thoroughly examined by a physician who specializes in Orthopedic hip care. Delaying assessment could worsen the injury or overlook an underlying health concern.

At Texas Orthopedics, our hip specialists are highly-trained to carefully assess and explain your condition. They will recommend the most appropriate treatment including conservative, non-surgical or surgical options based on the diagnosis. Physical therapy may also be part of the treatment protocol.
