Joint Replacement in Austin TX
Do you have joint pain? One in five people suffer from arthritis. There are over a hundred different types of arthritis, but the most common forms are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is characterized by a breakdown of cartilage, stiffness and pain in the affected joint. Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms include swelling and joint deformity. Arthritis can develop in the spine, shoulders, hands and wrists, hip, knee, ankles and feet.
The physicians at Texas Orthopedics always recommend a course of conservative treatment options prior to joint replacement surgery. Weight loss and low-impact exercises are a great place for patients to start. Anti-inflammatory medications and joint injections are also recommended prior to surgery.
If you have bone on bone arthritis and non-surgical treatment options have not provided relief, our surgeons may recommend total joint replacement so you can get back to what you love to do. Texas Orthopedics has a standardized pre-surgical process for all patients undergoing total hip replacement or total knee replacement, including general health optimization, preoperative clearance with the hospital and surgeon, and a free Pre-Surgical Education Program, or PEP Talk.
Pre-Surgical Education Program – Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery “PEP Talk”
Created for patients scheduled for total hip or total knee replacement, our PEP talk provides patients and their support team with an overview of what they can expect – start to finish – in their surgical experience.
Twice monthly, the PEP Talk is given by a registered nurse at our office. Patients must RSVP by calling 512-439-1100 or by registering online.
