Spine Specialist & Surgery in Austin, TX

Low back pain and neck pain are among the most common spine-related complaints. Muscle, ligament, nerve, disc, and spine injuries are frequent causes of back pain. Poor posture during movements, wear and tear, and degenerative disease, such as arthritis, can cause the spinal structures to break down and add pressure on the spinal cord or nerves. Only a small percentage of people with back and neck pain need spine surgery.

The board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeons and physiatrists (physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists) at Texas Orthopedics can determine the cause of your spine pain and provide effective treatment to relieve and manage your pain, recommending spine surgery only after exhausting all conservative treatment options.

Common spine conditions we treat include:

  • Herniated Disc
  • Radiculopathy
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Nerve Pain
  • Whiplash
  • Spondylolisthesis (Slipped Vertebrae)
  • Spondylolysis (Stress Fracture)
  • Facet Joint Syndrome
  • Scoliosis
  • Sciatica
  • Sacroiliac Joint Pain

Spine Surgery

Spine surgery may be necessary to relieve pain and improve function for certain types of spine and nerve conditions, usually after non-surgical treatments have failed. Feel confident that our spine surgeons use the most advanced surgical techniques, provide diligent follow-up care, and communicate closely with our post-surgical rehabilitation therapists to ensure you experience the best outcome possible.

We invite you to learn more about our fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon: Dr. Atilla Onan who routinely perform spine surgeries, including:

Cervical Spine

  • Disc Replacement
  • Fusion (Anterior and/or Posterior)
  • Microdiscectomy
  • Laminectomy

Lumbar Spine

  • Fusion (Anterior and/or Posterior)
  • Microdiscectomy

At Texas Orthopedics, our goal is to educate our patients about conditions and treatments for neck pain and back pain. If you’re suffering from neck or back pain, we invite you to call (512) 439-1001 for an appointment with one of our spine specialists or schedule one online.

Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

Doctors of physical medicine and rehabilitation are referred to as physiatrists. This type of doctor has expertise in diagnosing and treating neck and back pain without surgery, as well as nerve, muscle, bone, and orthopedic injuries.

Our board-certified physiatrists perform electrodiagnostic studies to diagnose nerve and muscle conditions that can cause pain, weakness, numbness, and tingling in the spine and extremities.

Learn more about our physiatrists Dr. Kenneth Bunch, Dr. Vishal Kancherla and Dr. Ai Mukai.

Non-surgical treatments for spine-related pain include:

  • Epidural Injections
  • Facet Joint Injections
  • Trigger Point Injections

  • Intercostal Nerve Block
  • Impar Ganglion Block
  • Caudal Epidural Injection
