Dr. Joseph Martinez is a board-certified, fellowship-trained Rheumatologist who has dedicated his life to helping others locally and as part of world medical mission teams. He believes in patient-centric care that truly helps patients live as fully as possible.
Dr. Martinez earned his medical degree and completed his residency in Internal Medicine from the University of Texas at Houston. Following residency he completed fellowship training in Rheumatology at the LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans.
Dr. Martinez specializes in all forms of rheumatic disorders, including:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Systemic lupus
- Vasculitis
- Scleroderma
- Spondylitis
- Osteoarthritis
- Other autoimmune conditions
As a highly respected medical provider, he has authored multiple medical articles and abstracts and been published in many peer-reviewed medical journals. In addition, he has presented at local, national, and international medical and scientific symposiums.
He has also participated in advanced medical research projects to help better understand and treat various medical conditions. Dr. Martinez is certified by the American College of Rheumatology to perform musculoskeletal ultrasound. This sophisticated imaging modality allows for highly accurate, detailed scans to aid in diagnosing and treating various conditions.
After a few years away, he is excited to be back in Austin and enjoys experiencing all that this city has to offer including Lady Bird Lake, live music and great food.
Dr. Martinez has been recognized by his peers from 2020 to 2023 as a Texas Monthly Super Doctors Rising Star. He was also recognized in 2022 as an Austin Monthly Top Doctor and has been a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2023.
