Dr. David Laverty is a fellowship-trained, board-certified surgeon specializing in orthopedic trauma. As a trauma surgeon, Dr. Laverty takes care of a range of orthopedic injuries including fractures, sprains and strains, to the most complex orthopedic injuries, many with multiple fractures and soft tissue injuries. It is Dr. Laverty’s job to ensure your injuries are addressed promptly and correctly, with or without surgery.
Dr. Laverty is the most tenured orthopedic trauma surgeon in Central Texas with over a decade of experience caring for injured patients at the regions only Level 1 trauma center, University Medical Center Brackenridge.
In addition to his orthopedic surgery practice in Austin, Dr. Laverty teaches medical students and residents. He also serves as Chief Orthopedic Surgeon for Circuit of The Americas, Austin’s home to annual Formula 1 and Motor GP events as well as X Games Austin.
Dr. Laverty is an active member of the teaching faculty of Dell Medical School’s Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program where he is working to advance the field of musculoskeletal care and training the next generation of physicians and surgeons. To learn more, please click here.
Dr. Laverty was awarded Physician of the Year in 2007 at University Medical Center Brackenridge. Most recently, Dr. Laverty was recognized locally by his peers in 2021 through 2025 as an Austin Monthly Top Doctor. He has also been a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2016.
Dr. Laverty is happily married to his wife Leslie, and they spend all their spare time raising their two children.

Meet Chelsea Ballard, MPAS, PA-C
Physician Assistant for Dr. David Laverty and Dr. Austin Hill
Chelsea Ballard received her Bachelors of Business from the University of Texas before attending PA school at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, graduating with her Masters of Physician Assistant Studies. Chelsea went on to participate in a surgical residency at the Norwalk/Yalk Physician Assistant Surgical Residency Program. She’s practiced orthopedic trauma since 2008 and is a vital part of the Texas Orthopedics Trauma Team. Chelsea is very passionate about her line of work and explains “I love this job because I get to walk with patients as they recover from traumatic injuries and get back to the things they love doing.”
When she is not in the clinic or assisting in surgery, Chelsea enjoys running and exercising. She is married with 2 children and stays busy on the weekends watching her kids play sports.
