As of June 30th 2019 Dr. Race has retired from the full time practice of orthopedic medicine. All of us at Texas Orthopedics wish Dr Race all the very best in his new adventure. Dr. Race will continue to play a role in assisting some workers compensations patients with their MMI (Maximum Medical Improvement) but he will no longer be scheduling patients in our regular clinic. One of our other orthopedic surgeons will be more than happy to assist you with any of your orthopedic needs.
J. Clark Race, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. He practiced orthopedics in Austin for over 25 years and has expertise in treating numerous orthopedic problems, including sports injuries, joint replacement, traumatic injuries, reconstructive surgery, fractures, and common problems of the shoulders, elbows, hands, hips, knees, ankle, and foot.
Dr. Race has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic and degenerative conditions of the neck, back and related spinal conditions. He has been an Orthopedic Rehabilitation Director at multiple rehabilitation facilities in Austin. Dr. Race also has extensive knowledge and experience with application and usage of evidence based treatment guidelines and protocols. These guidelines ensure appropriate diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic conditions and helps avoid over-diagnosis and treatment of benign conditions.
Dr. Race received his medical degree from the University of Texas at Galveston and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas, Texas. He has been selected as a 2017 Top Doctor in Austin by the International Association of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Race is a Designated Doctor for the Texas Department of Insurance, Workers Compensation Division and is the State Orthopedic consultant for Texas Department of Rehabilitation Services (DARS).
In his spare time, Dr. Race enjoys being with his large extended family in Austin. His hobbies include fishing, gardening, archery, and photography. He also volunteers his orthopedic expertise to the people of Honduras through Honduras Outreach International.
